BCS Bowl Picks '09

Happy New Year!

Rose Bowl
USC -9.5 over Penn State
Pick:
USC against the spread
USC straight up
Analysis: USC just has too much talent.

Orange Bowl
Cincinnati -2.5 over Virginia Tech
Pick:
VTech with the spread
VTech straight up
Analysis: I think the tougher conference should win out...and a special teams play or 2 from VTech will make the difference in the game.

Sugar Bowl
Alabama -9.5 over Utah
Pick:
Alabama against the spread
Alabama straight up
Analysis: We'll see if Utah deserves to be in a BCS game, but I don't think they have a enough to battle the depth of Alabama for 4 quarters, in any case.

Fiesta Bowl
Texas -8 over Ohio State
Pick:
Ohio State with the spread
Texas straight up
Analysis: Should be a solid game, and I think close. A lot will depend on the limiting of mistakes by OSU's quarterbacks. If OSU sticks to Tressel Ball and plays a regular defense (non-zone/prevent), this should be a very interesting game. If not, a Texas blowout wouldn't surprise me.

BCS Championship
Florida -3 over Oklahoma
Pick:
Florida against the spread
Florida straight up
Analysis: If the talent levels of the 2 schools are close to equal, including a Heisman QB each, I think this comes down to Urban Meyer out-coaching Bob Stoops. This should be fun! The matchup reminds me a little of Miami vs. Ohio State in '03.
